Spanner Plans (Free vs. Pro)

Pick the plan that matches how often you’ll use Spanner

Spanner works on both Free and Pro. The biggest difference is how much you can do each day (and how comfortably you can rely on Spanner for ongoing, everyday Apps like trackers, lists, and routines).

Plan details can change over time. You can always see your current plan and the exact limits on your device in Spanner > Settings > Plans (wording may vary slightly by device).

At a glance: what you get

Free (great for trying Spanner)

  • Create and use Apps you make with Forge.
  • Basic day-to-day usage for occasional needs.
  • Standard limits that may be noticeable if you run Apps frequently or keep iterating on them.

Pro (best for daily use)

  • More room for everyday usage (fewer “you’ve reached a limit” interruptions).
  • Higher limits for the actions people do most: creating Apps, updating Apps, and running Apps.
  • Designed for routines (trackers, checklists, shared household Apps, repeated tasks).

What changes when you upgrade

Upgrading to Pro generally changes capacity, not the basic way Spanner works. You’ll still create Apps in Forge, keep Apps in your App Library, and run them the same way—Pro mainly removes friction for frequent use.

  • You hit limits less often: Pro is meant for people who use Spanner as a daily helper.
  • You can iterate more: If you like to refine an App (tweak fields, reorganize screens, adjust results), Pro typically gives you more flexibility.
  • You can scale up your App Library: If you make many small Apps (one per situation), Pro is usually a better fit.
If you’re constantly thinking “I just need one more tweak” or “I use this App every day,” Pro is usually worth it because it’s built for repeated runs and ongoing improvements.

Daily limits to understand (so you’re not surprised)

Limits are there to keep Spanner reliable for everyone. On Free, you may occasionally run into them during heavy use. Here are the limits that most commonly affect day-to-day use.

1) How many times you can run Apps

“Running” an App means using it to do its job (for example: adding an item, logging a workout, generating a result, saving an entry).

  • What it feels like: Your App may pause you with a message that you’ve reached a usage limit.
  • Why it matters: Trackers and checklists can involve many small runs throughout the day.

2) How many changes you can request in Forge

Each time you ask Forge to adjust an App (add a field, change the layout, simplify steps, adjust outputs), it may count toward plan limits.

  • What it feels like: You can still use the App, but you may need to wait before making more changes—or upgrade to keep iterating.
  • Why it matters: New Apps often take a few rounds to feel “just right.”

3) How many Apps you can keep (or actively use)

If you create lots of small Apps (one for recipes, one for chores, one for budgeting, one for packing lists, etc.), you may hit an App count limit on Free sooner than expected.

4) Sharing and collaboration expectations

If you share Apps with family members or a partner, heavy shared usage can increase how quickly you hit limits (especially for Apps that get used many times a day).

This page focuses on what changes between plans. Details like upgrading, canceling, and billing receipts are covered in the billing and subscription pages in this documentation set.

How to check your plan and limits in the app

In Spanner, open Settings (often found in your profile area or the main menu). Tap Plans or Subscription. Look for sections that list your included usage and what happens when you reach a limit.

Practical tips to avoid hitting limits (especially on Free)

  • Batch small actions: If your App supports it, add multiple items/entries at once instead of one at a time.
  • Reuse one solid App: Instead of making many similar Apps, ask Forge to improve one App (for example: add categories or a “mode” selector).
  • Be specific in one message: When editing an App, list your changes clearly so Forge can handle them in fewer rounds.
  • Save “nice-to-have” tweaks: Make sure the App works reliably first, then polish labels and layout later.
If you rely on Spanner for something time-sensitive (like daily medication logs, household shopping, or routine tracking), consider Pro so limits don’t interrupt you when you need it most.

FAQs

No—upgrading is meant to expand what you can do, not replace your Apps. Your Apps and your way of using Spanner stay the same; you generally just get higher limits and fewer interruptions.

Spanner will typically show a message explaining what limit you hit and what your options are (for example: wait for the limit to reset, or upgrade). You can usually keep using what you already have until you need the blocked action again.

Not necessarily. Pro is best for anyone who uses Spanner often—daily checklists, tracking, repeated routines, or multiple household Apps. If you use Spanner occasionally, Free may be enough.
